What is Wondering Staffroom?

Wondering Staffroom is a community-built international teacher salary tracker. It exists because many teachers move overseas without clear, trustworthy information about what international teaching packages are really worth. Schools advertise “competitive salaries” and “excellent benefits”, but it can be hard to compare offers between countries – or even between schools in the same city.

Clearer salary transparency

The site collects anonymous international teacher salary data so you can see what others in similar roles are actually earning. Each submission includes details such as basic salary, currency, housing or accommodation allowance, flights, medical insurance, bonuses and other benefits. Over time, this builds a clearer picture of what fair pay looks like in different regions.

Who is this salary tracker for?

  • Classroom teachers comparing offers between countries or schools (for example the UAE, Qatar, Europe or Asia).
  • Middle and senior leaders who want to understand how their packages compare to similar roles in other international schools.
  • Early-career teachers thinking about their first contract abroad and judging whether a salary is realistic for the cost of living.
  • Teachers returning home weighing up overseas packages against local salaries and state/independent school roles.

What can you do on Wondering Staffroom?

  • Search and filter anonymous submissions on the Browse page to see what international school teachers earn.
  • Explore salary trends, average packages and benefit patterns over time in the Analytics section.
  • Read country-by-country snapshots on the Countries pages to understand typical packages and cost-of-living considerations.
  • Share your own data anonymously on the Submit page to support other teachers in the community.

How the salary data works

Every salary record on Wondering Staffroom comes from an international teacher or school leader who chose to share their package. We do not sell data and we do not ask you to create an account. Your submission is stored securely and shown only as part of the wider dataset – with school names removed from public views.

  • 1. Submit: Add your salary, currency, contract type, role, location and benefits anonymously. The more detail you share, the more useful it is for other teachers.
  • 2. Compare: Use filters and analytics to compare international teacher salaries by country, city, role, experience level and year.
  • 3. Decide: Use the data, stories and FAQs to prepare for interviews, negotiate better packages and avoid offers that don't match the cost of living or expectations in your region.

The aim is not to name and shame individual schools, but to make the international education ecosystem more transparent so teachers can plan their careers with realistic information.

This project only works because international teachers share honest numbers, not marketing language.

Whether you are moving overseas for the first time or deciding whether to renew your contract, real salary data helps you evaluate offers from a position of knowledge. If you've already been through the process, sharing your package is a simple way to support others in the international education community.
